With the French team in the semi-finals it was only fitting that the Crew gathered for breakfast to watch the game live on the big screen before heading off to site. Croissants and coffee to start the day and a win to France. Allez les Bleus!
Xmas at Edgecity Builders - Axe Throwing
Nothing like a bit of a competition amongst the Crew to close down a busy working year. AXE Throwing in central Auckland proved to be quite the entertainment. Divided into two Teams and then down to the Grand Finale with Axe Throwing Champion Clement taking out the inaugural title.
I AM HOPE - Gumboot Friday
Been supporting Mike King and this great charity providing support to NZ’ers mental health for sometime now. This year we invoked the annual “site” challenge. Gumboot photos were uploaded from each site and donations made via the very easy phone system. Great job Team I AM HOPE!
ECB Melbourne Cup Sweepstake
With prize money at stake, we all keenly selected a horse (some tried to select more than one) and then waited for the results…no 1st prize winner so we’ll all be sticking to building. The lack of success did not dampen our spirits and plenty of banter was shown amongst the crew which will lead well into next years race. Hearsay had it, the winner was in for a trip to Fiji.
Spending time in the Capital - Absolutely Positively Wellington
Packed in back to back meetings in the Capital for Edgecity Builders & NZ Certified Builders. Nick & Sharon met with Andrew Bayly to talk all things small business and construction. We’d be meeting up with Andrew again in November when he closes our NZ Certified Builders annual Conference in Hamilton. Off to MBIE to discuss the H1 and a trip to see the HazardCo team.
RIP Queen Elizabeth
With sadness we acknowledged the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after her 70yr reign. As Head of State, Her Majesty was also the head of the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) and its Services. Because of this, all members of the Defence Force are required to swear or affirm their allegiance to Her Majesty and to her heirs and successors. Nick remembers this oath with fondness and the reverence in which he gave it. Rest well your Majesty.
MATES in Construction - Fly the Flag Week
Edgecity support the MATES in Construction “Fly the Flag Week” with a flag flying from our Office premises showing our support and raising awareness of suicide prevention. Have a chat to your mates and look after yourself! Need help?
We take Health & Safety seriously at Edgecity Builders
Following some recent serious harm incidents in the construction sector last week in Auckland and general nationwide sector statistics held by WorkSafe, Edgecity was approached for comment by Radio NZ last week. Read what Nick had to say to Radio NZ when questioned.
Happy retirement Jim!
Nick & Sharon headed to Tauranga to join in the celebration of 20yrs in business for Builtin and Jim’s retirement from the insurance industry. Jim was treated to an all in staff flash dance of the very popular Stayin Alive & YMCA. Loads of laughs ahead of some serious words about a great man and great service for those of us in the building industry. Below photos are of Jim & Ben from Builtin and Nick from Edgecity sharing great stories at Jim’s retirement gig. Edgecity have had a 16yrs + association with Jim and the team so there was lots of share!
NZCB Chairperson - Nick Farrelly
The writing is on the wall…Nick has been added to the “board of fame” as 12th Chairperson of the NZ Certified Builders Association. The board is visible at the National Support Office in Tauranga.
Jacko Gill backs up Birmingham Comm Games SILVER and finishes 3rd in his first Diamond League appearance!
Jacko is well known to us here at Edgecity. Jacko is often used as an example of showing drive, determination and focus on doing your very best at all times when we discuss our values and ethics here at Edgecity. Congratulations Jack, great start to your Diamond League future!
NZ Certified Builders Auckland - Quiz Night held at the Auckland Yacht Squadron
Barbara MacGregor, Auckland President and her team held a Quiz night on the 18th August. The event was significant for NZCB Auckland. The first face to face event for members since Covid hit our shores. Great prizes on offer, Quiz Master Brent Riggs (Riggsy) from Hirepool, lots of support from industry partners and sponsors. A whole bunch of Auckland members young and old, new and existing. Edgecity were very happy to come away with a Black Magic fishing rod won in the raffle and a Yeti chilly bin won at auction. All proceeds going to Legasea.
Piranha Tools visit Auckland
ECB joined fellow NZCB’ers Paul Young and his crew at Twin Solutions on a site when Gaston from Piranha came to the North Shore recently. Great chitter chatter was held as Carpenters & Apprentices gathered around the back of the ute to view, chat and buy some of the finest hand tools and all things carpentry. Gaston travelled up from the flood torn territory of Nelson. We wish all in the region the very best as they clean up.
Edgecity TV Stars...
With the supply of materials being an issue, TV news media crews recently caught up with us and filmed Nick’s comments on one of Edgecity’s sites. The crew met after work to watch the footage and share some banter finishing off with a “slice” competition using our new Makita 40V droppy. Clement secured 1st prize for a to the mill cut and Sharon pulled a fine 2nd place finish on the 10mm challenge.
Edgecity's new addition Amelia arrived on 3 July 2022 and is ready for her site visits...
Amelia’s high vis kit and safety boots ready to be seen on ECB sites
Edgecity become Mental Health First Aiders
Recently three of the Edgecity team joined forces with industry peers to undertake training towards becoming Mental Health First Aiders. The course was run by HUMANEX at the Stardome Observatory in Auckland. We all gained real value from sharing this time with fellow business operators and our project leads who are focussed on awareness and supporting others struggling with their mental health.
Nick Farrelly NZ Certified Builders Chairperson
Nick has been elected to Chairperson by the newly convened 2022-2023 NZCB Board as the Associations’ 12th Chairperson, with Mike Hayward becoming the NZCBs Vice Chairperson.
As Chairperson, Nick will play a key role in setting the direction for the NZCB. “I am very excited to be NZCB’s Chairperson,” says Nick, “and would like to firstly acknowledge and thank my predecessor, Ian Chamberlain, who demonstrated an extraordinarily high level of commitment & passion during his time as the Association’s Chairperson.
“My wife Sharon and I run Edgecity Builders Limited in Auckland and I have been a member and advocate of the NZCB for 25 years. Across that time, I have enjoyed the opportunity working alongside the membership base, forming great relationships along the way. I am passionate about the NZCB’s role in supporting builders in their businesses, helping them advance their careers, and to prepare and protecting them for unexpected events. I understand the importance of upskilling our membership and raising the bar on technical training. I propose to be a very visible Chairperson, so I look forward to meeting members across the country during my tenure.”

Zoe and Ruby's artwork
When Clients remain in their home during a renovation and they have young families who need to adjust to the upheaval in their family home throughout the construction phase the journey can sometimes be seen as a stressful.
At Edgecity we include all the family in the home renovation journey. We get the young ones to draw us a picture and we encapsulate their art as a time capsule for others to find in the future.
Art work from Zoe (3) and Ruby (9) on a recent home renovation saw them both engage with the build crew as to where they wanted their art to be housed. The young ones are excited to see the builders arrive onsite in the morning and as soon as they are home from school in the afternoon rush in to check if the builders are still onsite. They like to chat to the build crew about what they have built whilst they have been away. Here is some art from a recent project.
Prestige Home Groomers
Tina from Prestige Home Groomers is our expert of builders final cleans. At the end of every job, Tina comes in and diligently tidies and cleans everything up so it sparkles for you when you’re ready to move in.
We’ve worked with Tina on many projects and love her great sense of humour and how she seamlessly gets along with our Crew. It’s another great example of why strong working partnerships are so important to Edgecity.
